Process
When I saw that scenic had chosen to haul out our old window set pieces, elements that had not been used since before my time (more than four years back), I knew I wanted them to glow. The set design consisted of the windows, propped up using step ladders (meaning I could not make any focus adjustments) and pipe pieces, along with fake foliage to create run down city ruins for our Underworld. I used Chauvet DMX-4 dimmer packs to dim gelled mini LED pars. I could then light these walls from the front using upstage ColorSource Cyc units, or from the back using these pars.
I only had a few days to design the show, so I focused most of my time setting up my specials and designing the core looks for the over and under worlds. These came together as stark whites and reds, also reflected in the costume design.
